HOMEPLATE

homeplate supports the positive development of young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability through community building, education, access to services and resources, and youth empowerment.
chinn and i volunteered for the youth drop in. she found this through hands on portland which is a a great resource to find volunteering opportunities. the youth drop in happens every monday and thursday. a group of volunteers gets together and make a hot meal for 11-24 year old youths. it is a place to relax and a chance to meet new people. there are no strings, no questions, no judging, no preaching, no drugs, no alcohol, no weapons, and no drama.
i really enjoyed it. chinn and i have done other volunteering together but this time you get to see the people who are directly affected by what you are doing. it was fun to chat with some of these kids. we even got a mini trumpet concert by a young guy.
one of the biggest fundraisers for farm plate is coming up next month it's called farm plate. you can buy tickets here. sadly i can't participate because i will be out of the country at that time you i would encourage anyone to buy tickets or volunteer.
